The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Soap Makers

What habits do you possess?
Maybe you will resonate with one or all of the following 7 Habits of Highly Effective Soap Makers.
Picture
1. They are ducks.
Not everyone is going to love your products and not everyone is going to love you. But when you learn to let go of the negativity, like water running off a duck’s back, you will have plenty of time to concentrate on the things that do matter; like growing your business.

2. They are mentors.
Let’s face it; there is nothing revolutionary about soap. It is has served the same purpose for thousands of years. To clean. What is revolutionary is the way it is designed + marketed. Soap makers who share with others receive a bounty of knowledge + gratitude in return.

3. They log off of social media.
For every minute that you are on facebook you lose one minute of production time. And because time is money, be sure to schedule your social time wisely.

4. They are inspired.
Being inspired and copying others are two distinct actions. You would not copy a novel word for word and attempt to sell it under your name. It would be an obvious act of plagiarism. While duplicating art is a bit hazier, doing so still limits your personal growth. Do your own thing while being inspired by (and an inspiration to) others.

5. They eat, love and sometimes pray.
Carve out time in your busy day to be that person that you want to be to your family/friends. Don’t ignore your emotional and physical health. If you are serious about your soap company’s future, do everything you can to ensure you will be able to work at the same pace years from now.

6. They are persistent.
Don’t always accept no as a final answer. Find ways to make things happen instead of wishing them to happen. Success is developed through continuous effort.

7. They are failures.
Failure is life’s utmost teacher. Failure forces us to rethink, reconsider and develop new methods. Don’t fret that your latest soap experiment did not pan out- just try again. Did you know that Thomas Edison failed to create a working light bulb 10,000 times? And lucky for us he did not give up. In fact he took his disappointments in stride by stating “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”

I totally agree with number 3, to much time is spent on social media. I get really irritated with people asking can this or that be used in soaping or related products. These same people are always there. :( asking questions instead of doing the research. Rant over :)

I intend to implement all of these. We all need a boost and attitude "reworked" sometimes. :)

I am so glad you included these tips. I especially enjoy reading that soapers should collaborate and mentor others and that failures are ways for us to grow. I have learned many things from you over the years. May your business continue to grow. Thank you.

I so agree with #7 and with Thomas Edison's way of thinking. When I was travelling overseas, I told a host that when I'm exploring and lose my sense of direction I never panic. I'm not lost. I just don't know where I am!

Hi, I am a new soapier, just learning the basic's from watching YouTube "soaping 101" and all the "soap stars". I think I am addicted. I needed the reminder to stay focused on faith, family, and health, so I can be a better soapier and small business owner. (A long time dream for me) Thank You

To add to number 6: if you don't achieve your goal, don't change the goal, change your approach to achieving it.
