Unlike the verbal word, the written word has permanency. Did you really want to say that about another? You may feel different the next day or the issue could resolve itself overnight.
Just as you can stir up social media marketing harm, so can your customers. Will a viral tweet get your company talked about? Absolutely. Will it drive immense traffic to your eCommerce store? Absolutely. Will that tweet result in an abundance of sales? Probably not. But you can be rest assured that you will be scurrying to a create damage control campaign.
Of course we cannot control what others say but not being proactive can be just as injurious. Avoid being controversial in social media groups. You do not have to stand out among your peers; they are not the ones buying your soaps. Don’t be “the one” that wants to continuously monitor others or take it upon yourself to correct those who may be doing things out of kilter. Support others genuinely and they will support you.
A business owner can't bank on getting good press for doing bad things. The only way to receive exceptional press is by doing exceptional things. Create great products and impart a fresh perspective in all that you do. Do you want to be famous for being the mean one or do you want to run a successful business through sincerity? The choice is yours.
